Frank McAvennie

McAvennie became a legend in English football during the 1985-86 season, his debut season starring for West Ham, saw him score a prolific 26 goals for the club, making him runner up top goal scorer in the football league. After 2 years playing for West Ham, the Scottish International switched club to Celtic FC in 1987. After 4 successful seasons starring for the club, he moved back to West Ham, playing in the top flight of English football during the 1991-92 campaign. The following year witnessed him transfer to Aston Villa, spending three seasons at the club before a move back to Scottish club, Celtic. McAvennie spent his last years playing for Swindon Town.

 

Paul McGrath
FA Cup Status – Winner (Manchester United) 1985
In the autumn of 1982, McGrath made his Manchester United debut in an encounter against Spurs at Old Trafford. During the 1985 FA Cup final, McGrath won huge praise for putting the defensive shackles on Everton forward Graeme Sharp. The improvement of the Irishman had not been unnoticed across the Irish Sea and he was picked to play for the Republic of Ireland.
McGrath departed Old Trafford in 1989 and moved to Aston Villa, in his debut season at Villa, the club only conceded 38 goals, a record second only to the champions, Liverpool, with McGrath in inspirational form through out the campaign.

 

David Platt

Platt started his career off playing for Crewe and his outstanding performances at the club earned him a move to Aston Villa. He made a name for himself in the 1990 world cup finals, scoring three goals and he soon went on to become England skipper. He helped Villa reach second place in the top flight during the 1989-90 season and his great play earned him a move to several Italian Clubs, including, Bari, Juventus and Sampdoria. He soon moved back to England in 1996, playing for Arsenal. After a successful playing career he went on to manage the England under 21’s.

Steve Staunton

Staunton made his first Liverpool appearance in September 1988 and played for the side through out the 88-89 season, winning the FA cup with the club. He was a key member of the Liverpool side that won the title in 1990 and his great play earned him a move to Aston Villa and he was outstanding with the club, helping them to victory over Man united in the 1994 league cup final. He won the league cup once again in 1996 before moving back to Liverpool in 1998. In 2000, he came back to Villa, spending three more seasons at the club. In total during his career he played for the Midlands club on over 300 occasions.
